I can login to the system and start vncserver, and that works ok. However, I cannot figure out how to get vncserver to startup automatically on boot. I've checked the box in the GNOME/Nautilus 'Service Configurator", and even tried starting it from the Service Configurator. It says vncserver is started,

That looks in a file ~/.vnc/passwd by default to get the (encrypted) password to pass to the server. The passwd file is created by the vncpasswd command for setting the server password on the Linux server, but you can rename the file - ~/.vnc/passwd.windows for example - if you use your server and want/need a

Where are the config files for the VNC server ?
If you know of a way to implement it so that VNC is loaded even if I don't have the server logged in, please let me know. This installs a new "vncserver" in the Services control panel. Don't start it and don't check it. Stop it, in fact, and reboot. It's broke in RH8 with KDE 3.0.x, as far as I can tell.

Greetings, Over the weekend I'm going to try and configure my Mandrake 9.0 system to connect to my Win2K server at work. How to install (real) VNC Server on Solaris 9?
See that your VNC server is listening to those ports. On my own setups, I don't usually use the Linux firewall simply because for my use, if I don't want someone in my machine I'm not running the service :-) Well, for ssh, I also run denyhosts as a layer of protection. That may not work for you though.

TS is certainly faster, but VNC lets you see the 'real' desktop. Plus, if you've got a problem with TS, you can't usually solve it via a TS connection ;-) The VNC server listens on ports 5800 and 5900, but for security reasons, *don't* open these ports... the people who wrote VNC state:- "How secure is VNC?
